Quaid-i-Azam University ISALAMABAD PAKISTAN.

Quaid-i-Azam University is a public research university in Islamabad, Pakistan. Founded as the University of Islamabad in 1967, it was initially dedicated to the study of postgraduate education but expanded through the 1980s to an interdisciplinary university offering undergraduate and postgraduate education.

Quaid-i-Azam University (once named Islamabad University) was established under the Act of National Assembly and started teaching and research programmes for PhD and MPhil degrees. It was, however, gradually and later decided to offer Master’s, graduate, and now undergraduate programmes. The University, for its international repute, faculty and programmes attracts a large number of foreign students although it offers admission to a measured number of students from all regions of the country as it is a federal public sector university.


Bachelors Programmes are announced once a year in Fall Semester, MPA/MBA (1.5 yrs, 2 yrs) in Spring Semester only whereas admissions to PhD, MPhil, MSc and Computer/IT Diploma/Short Courses are offered once a semester. Faculty of Natural Sciences has launched its BS 4 years programme and restricted MSc programme to spring semester only. All the programmes follow semester system except short courses. The University offers admission to its programmes in following four faculties:

  • Academic Year / Semester

The study in University is based on a semester system. An academic year is divided into two semesters namely spring and fall, each of a minimum duration of 16 weeks of teaching. The spring and fall semesters start on the first Monday falling in the month of February and September, viz a viz each calendar year. There is a gap of two weeks between both the semesters, and the exact dates are decided in a meeting of Deans/Directors and Chairpersons, taking the factual position (prevalent at that time) into consideration.

Foreign Students Admission.

Quaid-i-Azam University promotes higher education within the country encouraging Pakistani nationals as well as extends it to the foreign nationals seeking admission to the University. The University is rated among the best institutions of the region and follows the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) criteria to entertain the foreign students.

A foreign student seeking admission to the University has to apply in the QAU after obtaining the equivalence of their Certificates/Degrees from Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) and Higher Education Commission (HEC) so as to determine his/her eligibility. After being eligible the student will be issued letter of admission/confirmation, who submit the student information sheet for issuance of NOC from HEC.
